How
do I secretly find out her ring size?
Do not use the string technique, it never works.
Check out, How
do I find my size?
Or try some of these clever ideas: |
- If you are buying her an engagement ring try to sneak
away a ring that she wears on her left hand and take it
to a jewelry store and ask them to put it on a jeweler’s
mandrel for its size. If you can only get a right hand
ring see if you can get her to slip it on the other hand
while talking to you. Play with her hands and get interested
in her ring pull it off and then put it on her left hand.
See if it’s tight or loose or just right.
- If you are brave and she is a sound sleeper. Slip a
ring on her left hand and see if it is too big or small.
Unfortunately this is still not very accurate. Best bet
is to order the ring in a standard ladies size 6 and have
it sized after you present it.
At Maxaria, your first ring re-size is always free.

Is
Platinum the best (nicest) metal you can buy?
Not necessarily. Gold has been popular in jewelry
for centuries and possesses a lot of wonderful qualities.
Platinum just happens to be more expensive because a) it is
harder to physically mine (though plentiful) and b) it is
less pliable which makes it more difficult to work with, thus
requiring more skill. Advertising has also played a major
role in the popularity of Platinum since it is relatively
new (1880’s). Overall, both metals are beautiful and
wonderful in their own rite. Don’t feel that you aren’t
getting good quality because if you’re not buying platinum.
Consider durability and style when comparing to Gold. You
will find both excellent jewelry metals what ever your price
range.

Do
I really need insurance?
We at Maxaria recommend that any large diamonds over 1.00ct and above
should be insured and contain a Certificate of Authenticity from a reputable
and unbiased organization. We use and recommend
GIA,
EGL
and IGI. Any diamonds 1.00ct
and above purchased here at Maxaria will be certified and
appraised for you and your insurance company. (Note: Most
insurance companies will only offer to cover a minimum of
$2,000.00 in such cases it is recommended to keep all receipts
and records so that you may combine purchases for coverage.)
CHUBB & Jewelers Mutual are two great
independent insurance companies that will help you insure
your jewelry and give full replacement, loss, theft damage
coverage polices in an affordable packages.
Additionally,
you should know that all gemstones including diamonds can
be cracked or broken and stones over time may fall out of
their mounting. All metal is malleable and can bend or break
with heavy wear and even normal wear. It’s smart to
insure any jewelry you consider valuable.

Earrings for Phone Users
If you work on the phone all day think about wearing hoops
or lever-back earrings. Posts may get in the way of your comfort
at work or leave scarring behind the ears. |
| |
Watch
for Hoop Grabbers
Avoid Hoops with small infants, they have strong little grips
that grab more than long hair. “Ouch!” |
| |
Put
Jewelry on Last
Jewelry, hairspray, & perfumes don’t mix. Put Jewelry
on just before you go out. This way you avoid putting a film
of sticky sprays or makeup on your diamonds and other gems.
Pearls and other organic gems
can also be damaged by the alcohol contained in such toiletries. |
| |
Swimming
and Pearls
If you swim a lot and you just have to wear jewelry don’t
wear pearl jewelry. The chlorine will eat away the pearl and
you will loose its lovely iridescence. (Better yet take it
off before you get near a pool.) Check out Caring
For Your Jewelry. |
